Budget hotel in great location: Treebo Red Lotus Heritage, Pondicherry

All these years I had visited Pondicherry a dozen times, but all of them were a day visit. Arrive by morning and return by evening or proceed to other places like Pichavaram or Tranquebar. But finally, I decided to spend a weekend exclusively in Pondicherry. With this plan, I spend 2 nights in Treebo Red Lotus Heritage hotel in Pondicherry. The hotel is in a great location and has good set of facilities, making it a good stay option for anyone visiting Pondicherry. In this post, I am detailing my findings and experience at the Treebo Red Lotus Heritage hotel.

Location

Treebo Red Lotus Heritage hotel is located very close to the rock beach- just about 750 meters from Gandhi Statue, 350 meters from Aurobindo Ahram, 280 meters from Vinayaka temple,500 meters from Bharathi park and so on.  Pondichery bus stand is 2.4 kms from the hotel, Auroville is 10 kms away, Pondicherry airport is 6 kms away (Yes, there’re direct flights to Pondicherry from Hyderabad now- details here). The locality is also great- lots of trees, super clean surroundings, nice roads and old French colonial style buildings. Thus Red Lotus Heritage is in perfect location. It doesn’t have a beach view or private beach, but that is fine- Treebo is a budget hotel and not a luxury resort.

Rooms:

Rooms are spacious and colourfully designed- check the photos. What could have been an ordinary room is spiced up through some creative painting and art work. The red doors, windows and corridors look nice. My room was given a king's bedroom theme, whereas other rooms as seen in their website had green and red themes.

Unfortunately I had to skip breakfast- which will be ready by 8.15 AM- I had to reach Auroville by 8.45 for visiting Matrimandir's inner chamber hence couldn't wait for breakfast.

Saravana Bhavan and many restaurants are within walking distance. Free drinking water is available from a can in reception. Newspaper is also available at reception. Taxi and such additional services are arranged on demand. Red Lotus Heritage has about 10 rooms spread across 2 floors and a rooftop restaurant.

Couple friendly: Treebo Red Lotus Heritage in Pondicherry is couple friendly and welcomes unmarried couples. Few other hotels are known to create problems by refusing stay at the last minute and even not refunding the booking amount paid.

Pricing: Treebo Red Lotus Heritage costs about INR 1300 per day. Price may vary slightly depending on number of guests, applicable offers, refundable/non-refundable and dates of stay.
