Scenic drive to Poa Mecca, Hajo, Assam
Hajo is a town some 35 kms from Guwahati
town. Poa Mecca is a popular shrine in this town. Rajiv Verma, who runs North East Explorers suggested that I visit this town for a great driving
experience, so I decided to try it out. Poa Mecca means 25% Mecca. Visiting the masjid
on top of the hill here is reportedly deemed to be equal to one fourth as equivalent as
visiting the real Mecca, thus the name Poa Mecca (Poa = quarter). As I
proceeded towards the Hajo town from new Brahmaputra bridge, the first 19 kms
were normal highway, without anything much exciting. However, final 3-4 kms
were hill road with tall trees by the side. Below are some photos from the
drive to Pao Macca masjid in Assam
The masjid s relatively small and deserted
at 8 AM when I visited. Took some photos from outside- check it out below.
Shops around were yet to open. But my intention was the drive, which was
pleasurable.
Truly Awesome pics. Not yet visit Poa Mecca and Hayagriva Madhava Temple in Hajo.
