Irony of software industry

1. A fresher who just joined is keen to go onsite, travel the world… but company won’t send him, because he doesn’t have the required experience and expertise.

10-15 years later, this guy gains considerable experience and management wants him to go places fixing issues and handling responsibilities. But now he doesn’t want to travel because of health issues, family matters or because he’s not allowed to fly business class.

2. A software engineer on bench craves for a project and struggles to kill time. Another software engineer on project works day in and day out, unable to meet deadlines and personal life gone for a toss.

3. When he was a team member, he would refuse to work on weekends, citing work life issues and explaining how the delay was not his fault or concern or why he should work if there’re no comp offs. Now he has become a TL/Manager, wants his team members to work on weekends. If someone questions, he’s well rehearsed motivational speech why client and company would come first and how client satisfaction is fundamental to everyone’s career.

  1. A very good...post i must say and those who have the IT sector experience can feel it...

One from my side as well...

When at times...there are no one to outdo a huge portion of work you are the one who is pampered to the extreme to get you motivated for the extra responsibility...

but then there are times when even a small miniature mistakes lands up on most lashes one can ever imagine...!!!

  2. The second one, the bench thing happened to me. It was quite harder than being in an active project. But before it got much worse, I quit and joined master degree course.

Not sure, if he has experience or not.. but I am pretty sure.. there is a big list of people in line waiting for Visa's, in case of Service companies.. .like you know who.. :)-
but in case of product companies.. I doubt you get a chance for onsite..

well.. let me tell you something...a person who loves his job.. will not sleep until the job is done.. come what may.. the personal life does not come into picture when he loves to do the job...

but if a person who wishes to be in theatre or a mechanic get employed in a software company.. I am sure.. he will not work during office hours.. forget working on weekend..

So its all about a person loving his job.. rather than.. choosing easy money..

  5. Back in the days, they used to send 3-4 months exp folks onsite. I did an onsite assignment for 22 months with productive work of 2 months. How the IT world changed!

  6. Thanks Siva for sharing your experience. At that time sending onsite was a way to retain employee from quitting. Now they don't see any need for such things
