Just sharing a set of decent photos clicked during a recent visit to Vandaloor Zoo in Chennai.
During our lion safari, driver forced the beasts to come out of their hideouts by repeated honking. I guess they came out in anticipation of food, walked around the caged van while we took some photos. Missed some good shots as my camera was irritatingly focusing on the wires of the mesh placed outside van windows, instead of focusing on the animal behind it.
In their captive environment these beasts looked dull and inactive. No other dangerous animal (tiger for example) could be spotted and we came back from restricted areas.During our lion safari, driver forced the beasts to come out of their hideouts by repeated honking. Bird area had lot of painted storks, pelicans and more.

BSA offers cycle rentals within zoo campus and it is a nice offering. Two seat, dual pedal cycles are in high demand there.
Entry fee is Rs 20 per person, lion safari fee is also Rs 20 per person. Compare this with what it costs to enter Bannerghatta or other zoos/parks in Karnataka.
Thanks to Ram for naming some of the birds above.

ReplyDeleteLets get the facts right purely based on merit
ReplyDeleteMysore zoo - 40
Bannerghatta zoo - 160 (includes safari)
1)Mysore zoo is one of the best in the country, the animals are so healthy and well treated
2)It has one of the best breeding programmes for wild animals and exchange programmes in the entire country
Coming to Bannerghatta ,no doubt the price is a tad higher ,but the reason for that is that bannerghatta is a national park where all captured wild animals from circuses ,animals injured by hunters are brought from all over karnataka and kept for life since they can no longer survive in the wild
The tiger safari there is world class-it is the better than mysore zoo.Recently there was a severe crunch -which lead to death of animals due to food poisoning and old age. This was one of the major factors why the prices were raised
Even with this hike -what matters is the quality.both these zoos win hands down
Agree, both Mysore n Bghatta are relatvely better.
ReplyDeleteI read entry fees have been hiked across Karnataka for national parks...
