-2020 update: Had to remove photos due to technical issue (site where I had uploaded them went down)- will try to restore -
Port area in Colombo was fully deserted on a Sunday afternoon. It was nice to see the clean roads and majestic buildings. They are somewhat similar to Mumbai Port area (around church gate, Gateway of India etc)
Just sharing few pics of the building in and around Port area, Colombo, capital of Srilanka
Above: Clock tower and Srilankan Pharmaceutical corporation building in Port area, Colombo. Below: A view of the port, from a distance. (We couldn’t go inside or nearer due to security reasons)
Naturally port areas are commercial hubs. The location houses several banking institutes, including Standard Chartered, HSBC, SBI, Indian Bank and few Srilankan Banks.
A view of the deserted streets during a Sunday afternoon

ReplyDeleteLooks so pristine....where are all the people?
ReplyDeleteI guess it's called Fort Area not Port Area :)
ReplyDeleteShande,
ReplyDeleteI believe it is Port area only..
Fort refers to king's command centre-say palace and high walls around it- like Bekal Fort etc...
Port refers to an entry point- airport, waterport etc
Just to correct something. This whole area is called Fort. It is called Fort because this is where the fort of Portugeese existed. Colombo was a Moor city that had trade relationship with coromendel cost in India.Later Portugese captured city knowing jolly well the significance. The area close to Colombo harbour is the "Port area" within Colombo " Fort" area
ReplyDeleteThanks for your inputs Ranjan
