Revisited Chelavara falls after a long long time as it was closer to Club Mahindra Virajpet where I was staying- second visit after more than a decade, on March 30, 2022.
There was still some water despite the summer season. I guess it may dry down by end of April
Access to falls is now restricted by a few barricades, not sure if there are other ways to enter. A board has been put up at the entry point. I went 400 meters ahead and spotted another walking trail down to the falls. A few hundred meters ahead there is another access point to enter water upstream.
Chelavara falls is located about 12 kms from Kakabbe, after a little diversion from Virajpet road. (17 kms from Virajapete) The falls is visible from a distance as we neared the place. Height wise this is taller than Abbey falls and while tourists are not allowed to go under the falls there in Abbey, Cheluvara falls is unrestricted.
Today is supposed to be Blog Action Day and we’re supposed to write about the theme, Water. I’m supposed to write more about water conservation/water projects/its significance etc- but writing about waterfalls instead.
If you have time, there’re provisions for trekking upstream. We didn’t trek much, though.

ReplyDeleteAs far as I know it is Chelavara.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the pics have come out well, though I am surprised that the water was less in the falls.
Thanks for clarification.

Here's a plan (I assume they're starting from Blr previous night and arriving in Madikeri next day early morning
ReplyDeleteday 1, morning: Arrive at Madikeri, rent a car, drive to Bagamandala, Talakaveri, breakfast at Karnataka tourism hotel in Bagamandala, while returning, drive to Kakabbe, reach homestay in Kakabbe by lunch time.
There're 2-3 good homestays in Kakabbe, Kings cottage is where we stayed. There's also Palace estate and few others.
Lunch, Rest, Evening- Walk to nearby waterfalls, palace
Dinner, Rest.
Day 2: Drive towards Iruppu falls (2.5 hours journey one way), explore Iruppu falls, (guess there's one more falls nearby), visit Nagarahole reserve forest, return to Kakabbe guest house by evening
Day 3: Early Morning- trek to Tadiandamol peak, if possible, else other activities facilitated by homestay (tribal colony visit, bird watching etc) Checkout after breakfast, visit Chelavara falls on Virajpet Road (this can be visited Day 2 evening also if time permits)
head to Madikeri, visit Madikeri Fort, Raja Seat, Lunch
Drive to Abbe falls.
After abbe falls drive to Dubare, checkin to Dubare Inn, Rest
Day 4: Early morning visit to chiklihole Dam, back to Dubare, visit elephant care centre
Checkout from Hotel, drive to Kaveri Nisargadhama, Bylukuppe Golden Temple,
Return to Bangalore via Mysore
if Day 5 is available, I feel that can be spent in visiting places around Mysore.
